My Story
The Beginning
I was four years old, it was February 1964 and The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and I was hooked; I've been playing drums ever since. Following their appearance and subsequent Beatlemania, my parents then took me and my siblings to see them play live - not once, but twice - in Chicago. Even my 61 year old grandmother (who was a multi-instrumentalist and also loved their music) came to the last show we saw at the Chicago Amphitheater.
Music Soothes the Soul
As I said, I began playing the drums at the age of four, that was sixty years ago. I began playing because I just loved music and I still do - listening to it, playing it, writing and recording it, performing it and seeing it performed live. I grew up on the rock of the 60's, 70's, 80's and beyond. Through the years I taught myself how to play piano, guitar and bass guitar and now I write, record and play all the instruments, as well as do all the vocals for my recordings. Music has been there in happy times, sad times and I always turn to it for comfort during hard times. It soothes the soul. Some refer to my music as Boomer Rock. Rock on!
Our Philosophy
At Steven M Skinner Music, we believe that music and the visual arts have the power to bring people together and create meaningful experiences. In addition to my music, I've always been drawing for as long as I can remember. After high school, I tried my hand with a paint brush and to me it's like making music one can see and, hopefully, also feel.
